The Department of Basic Mathematics

The Department of Basic Mathematics currently has 27 full-time faculty members, including 2 recipients of the "National Distinguished Young Scientists Fund" and 1 participant in the "National Talent Project for Hundreds of Millions of People." Among them, there are 6 professors, 6 associate professors, and 15 assistant professors and lecturers. Research areas include complex dynamical systems, complex analysis, multivariable calculus, fractal geometry, and differential geometry. We are able to admit doctoral students specializing in complex dynamical systems. Over the years, we have led and participated in dozens of projects, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, Young Scientists Fund projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and projects from the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation.

The Department of Basic Mathematics is responsible for organizing the teaching of the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Teacher Education) program. This program aims to cultivate individuals with a strong foundation in mathematical theory and excellent mathematical teaching skills, who can work as versatile professionals in mathematics education, teaching, and management at primary and secondary schools. The courses offered by the mathematics department include "Mathematical Analysis," "Advanced Algebra," "Analytical Geometry," "Complex Variable Functions," "Abstract Algebra," "Differential Geometry," "Mathematics Pedagogy," and "Micro-teaching in Mathematics," among others. The Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Teacher Education) program is the only undergraduate program in Shenzhen that trains mathematics teachers for primary and secondary schools. We have established two provincial teacher education practice bases in collaboration with two local primary and secondary schools. The employment rate of our graduates is among the highest in all undergraduate programs at Shenzhen University, with over 80% of our graduates securing teaching positions in public primary and secondary schools in Shenzhen.

The Department of Applied Mathematics

The Department of Applied Mathematics currently has 29 full-time faculty members, including 7 professors, 14 associate professors, and 8 lecturers and assistant professors. Among our faculty members, there is 1 recipient each of the National Distinguished Young Scientists Fund, the Ministry of Education's Important Talent Award Program, and the National Excellent Young Scientists Fund. Our faculty members are primarily engaged in teaching and research in applied mathematics, with a focus on solving real-world problems. Areas of expertise include the theory and applications of partial differential equations, machine learning and optimization, image processing, and more. We have undertaken over dozens of research projects, including funding from the National Natural Science Foundation, and have published several significant research outcomes in top-tier international journals.

In the Applied Mathematics program, we offer a specialization in Financial Mathematics and collaborate with the School of Economics to offer a "Mathematical Finance Experimental Class." This program aims to train students with a solid foundation in mathematical theory, expertise in the application of mathematics in economics and finance, and proficiency in computer applications. Graduates are equipped to apply modern mathematical theories to solve practical problems in fields such as science and engineering, finance, and economics, making them versatile mathematical innovators. These graduates serve as a valuable pool of talent, not only for this program but also for other related disciplines. Typically, our graduates pursue further studies at the graduate level, study abroad, or work in research and development, management, and teaching roles in fields such as economics, finance, high technology, and education.

The Department of Information and Computational Science

The Department of Information and Computational Science currently has 18 full-time faculty members, including 5 professors, 9 associate professors, and 4 assistant professors and lecturers. Among the faculty, 17 hold doctoral degrees, 1 is recognized as a "Liyuan Outstanding Scholar" at Shenzhen University, 1 is a "Liyuan Outstanding Young Scholar," and 2 are overseas high-level talents under the "Peacock Plan" in Shenzhen. Faculty research primarily focuses on numerical methods and their applications in the field of information, including numerical approximation, wavelet analysis and applications, signal processing, image processing, pattern recognition, computer science, and more. They have collectively led more than 20 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and numerous provincial and ministerial-level research and teaching projects. Their academic contributions include the publication of over 300 research papers in authoritative domestic and international journals.

The department is responsible for the organization of teaching and the development of the undergraduate program in Information and Computational Science. Currently, this program has been recognized as a national first-class undergraduate program, and it has received funding support as a key program in the "Quality Engineering" initiative of Guangdong Province. The department has also established internship bases in collaboration with several high-tech companies in Shenzhen, including a joint partnership with Fang Zhongtian to build a student practice teaching base in Guangdong Province. Additionally, in collaboration with the School of Computer Science, the department offers an Experimental Class in Mathematics and Computer Science, which follows an independent training program aimed at cultivating interdisciplinary talent. They have also established a Micro Specialization in Innovative Application Development based on the HarmonyOS system, bridging the gap between education and employment.

The faculty in the department also contribute to the development and mentoring of doctoral and master's programs in the field of mathematics and applied statistics. Graduates from these programs have received national scholarships, Tencent scholarships, recognition for outstanding master's theses at Shenzhen University, and have been awarded the title of outstanding graduate students, among other accolades.

The Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics currently comprises 14 full-time faculty members, including 2 professors and 7 associate professors/researchers, all of whom hold doctoral degrees. More than 80% of the faculty have overseas study backgrounds, and 2 teachers hold qualifications as actuaries. Among the faculty, 1 is recognized as a "Liyuan Outstanding Young Scholar" at Shenzhen University, 7 are overseas high-level talents under the "Peacock Plan" in Shenzhen, 1 is a local-level talent in Shenzhen, and 2 are reserve talents in Shenzhen. Research areas in the department include mathematical statistics, big data statistics, biostatistics, and financial statistics. The faculty members have undertaken nearly 30 national and provincial-level research projects and have published over 200 research papers in top-tier statistical journals and SCI magazines.
