The Institute of Mathematics of Shenzhen University was approved to be established by Shenzhen University on September 5, 2022, and formally listed on February 23, 2023, it is a university-level non-independent scientific research institution of Shenzhen University, which is subordinate to the School of Mathematical Sciences of Shenzhen University, with Prof. Wang Yuefei, Distinguished Professor of Shenzhen University and Dean Emeritus of the School of Mathematical Sciences, serving as the Director, and Prof. Chen Zhibing as the Executive Deputy Director.

The Institute of Mathematics at SZU takes complex analysis and complex dynamical systems as well as fluids and partial differential equations, mathematical optimization as its main research areas, and the research team has more than ten researchers, including two recipients of the National Outstanding Young Persons' Fund, one Renowned Scholars' Professor of the Ministry of Education, and two recipients of the Outstanding Young Persons' Fund. The Institute of Mathematics at SZU relies on the School of Mathematics of SZU, and has relatively independent research sites and relatively perfect research facilities. The Institute of Mathematics at SZU intends to attract outstanding young mathematical talents, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students through the construction of a first-class scientific research team and academic research environment, so as to become a basic mathematical research institute with great influence, distinctive features and international reputation.

The Institute of Mathematics now hosts two key projects of the National Foundation of China (NFC), one sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program of China (NKRDP), two projects of the National Excellent Youth Program (NYP), two face-to-face projects of the Foundation of China (FOC), two youth projects of the Foundation of China (FOC), and four scientific research projects for Shenzhen's high-end talents.
